Will a bird-feeder help stop the birds from eating my dog’s food?

I have trouble with birds eating my out-door dog’s food. They flock to my patio and feast… meanwhile pooing all over my patio and lawn furniture. Do you have any suggestions? Do you think putting a bird feeder away from my patio will help or just draw more birds to my lawn? Help!
