Wild birds won’t use bird feeder?

I put a bird feeder in the tree in front of our apartment. This is a large tree that many birds use. However they will not touch the birdseed in the feeder. Someone gave me finch seeds; is it possible wild birds won’t eat finch food? I assumed wild birds would eat any kind of seed.

It all depends on what kind of birds use the tree,? also it takes a while for them to get used to a strange object on their territory, another factor is there may be a good supply or source of their natural food in the area.

For greater variety of birds to start using new feeder sometimes it needs to start using new feeder sometimes it needs to start using new feeder sometimes.
For birds to be in place where they feel safe try getting seed mix that has sunflower seedscorn and other things in it needs to start using new feeder sometimes it for birds to be in it can take awhile for birds.
